SONG OF THE WEEK #9 / TWO WEEKS / GRIZZLY BEAR

-
Having first watched their phenomenal gig at Green Man festival Grizzly Bear's latest album "Veckatimest" fast became my favourite release of the year to date. Genuinely exciting to watch live, their inventive and innovative spirit is captured perfectly in album format with this release.
-
As a departure from the usual Spotify link (the album is not on there) above is the video of the first single release from Veckatimest called "Two Weeks" directed by Patrick Daughters. As a bonus below is also Spotify link to one of the leading tracks from their 2006 album "Yellow House" enititled "Knife."

SONG OF THE WEEK #8 / GROUND AS COMMON AS GOLD / MICE PARADE

-
Mice Parade's 2005 release "Bem-Vinda Vontade" is one of my favourite records of all time and as such I could have picked any of it's nine songs to highlight. The record is such a fantastic showcase of founder member Adam Pierce's plethora of skills, particularly when it comes to percussion, and one that I couldn't recommend listening to more strongly.

WALLPAPER* / FRONT COVER / PHILIPPE STARCK COLLAB

-
The front cover I worked on in collaboration with Philippe Starck for the wonderful Wallpaper* magazine is out this month. October's issue of the magazine sees two limited edition guest edited releases, one from Philippe Starck and the other from Karl Lagerfeld both with very different covers.
-
Each cover features innovative printing technology from the Wallpaper* team inorder to realise Lagerfeld and Starck's ambitious cover ideas. To find out more about the processes involved click the link below.
-
The project was an absolute pleasure to work on which culminated in the unexpected listing in Wallpaper's contributors section illustrated by Jo Ratcliffe.

SONG OF THE WEEK #7 / USEFUL CHAMBER / DIRTY PROJECTORS

-
Dirty Projectors have to be one of the most exciting and dynamic live acts I've seen in the past few years. I was totally blown away when they supported Beirut a couple of years ago but a little disappointed when the live act didn't really translate onto record with their debut. I was very pleased to hear this doesn't ring true for their second album "Bitte Orca" being released on Domino, from which this week's song has been plucked.

-
For a slightly smaller budget the "Bird 01" t-shirt is available to purchase from ShopVon.

BECKS ART LABELS 2009 / LONDON PAPER PRESS

-
Last night I was pleasantly surprised to find this clipping about the recently released Becks Music Inspired artwork in yesterday's London Paper.
-
"Hellovon's new cover for the Smiths' The Queen is Dead shows a butterfly with the Union Jack emblazoned across its wings, capturing Morrisey's mix of defiance, Englishness and vunerability"
